Eid al-Fitr, declared as a public holiday and a day off, was celebrated in Turkmenistan on 2 May, 2022.
Eid al-Fitr is, Holiday of Breaking the Fast, is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long fasting of Ramadan.It is one of the two official holidays which are celebrated within Islam (the other is Eid al-Adha, the holiday of sacrifice).
On this day Muslims perform ablution, put on festive clothing and go to a mosque to attend a collective prayer, which also involves reading of Quran.After the prayers, Muslims visit their relatives, friends, and acquaintances or invite to their homes for a festive meal.
On 2 May President Serdar Berdymukhammedov offered greetings to the Turkmen people.
Festive prayers were performed in mosques across Turkmenistan.The state information agency TDH did not provide any coverage but the broadcast was shown on the national television.Based on television footage, mullahs were reading out excerpts from a new book authored by the former President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov entitled “The purpose of my life” to the Muslims who had congregated in the mosques in honour of the holiday.
The 57th book authored by his father, who is now on vacation, was presented by Serdar Berdymukhammedov at the Cabinet session on 29 April.
TDH emphasized that “this remarkable philosophic writing is a kind of ultimate quintessence of wisdom and genuine national spiritual and moral values passed on by the Turkmen people from generation to generation over thousands of years”.
On 29 April it was presented at the Palace of Mukams of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan and on the 20th of April – at the National Music and Drama Theatre named after Magtymguly.
