A solemn ceremony of installing a memorial stone to commemorate the construction of the Cathedral Mosque complex was held in Kazan.
There are plaques by the sculptor Zulfiya Muhamedyanova with inscriptions in Arabic, Tatar, Russian and English “In commemoration of the Cathedral Mosque in honor of the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria” on the memorial stone.
The President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, delegates of the XIII International Economic Summit “Russia Islamic World: KazanSummit 2022”, meetings of the Strategic Vision Group “Russia Islamic World”, 1100 delegates of the All-Russian Forum of Tatar Religious Figures, and members of the public, guests and residents of the republic participated in the event.
The initiator of the construction of the mosque was the Muslim community of Tatarstan represented by the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan on the eve of the celebration of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria, which is an important historical event.
By order of the President of Tatarstan, the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria is celebrated at the state level.
The cathedral mosque will be located on the beautiful bank of the Kazanka River opposite the walls of the Kazan Kremlin and will be able to accommodate at least 10 000 people at the same time.
In accordance with the Decree of the President of Tatarstan, in order to promote the spiritual and moral development of society, preserve the traditions and customs of the peoples of Tatarstan, the Republican Foundation for the Promotion of the Spiritual and Moral Development of Society “Igelek-Kindness” was established in 2022.
Rustam Minnikhanov headed the Supervisory Board of the fund.One of the objectives of the fund is to finance activities related to the construction, reconstruction and restoration of facilities necessary for the spiritual and moral education of society.
The Foundation acts as the customer for the construction of the Cathedral Mosque, the general contractor is “Eurostroyholding +” LLC.
