Today in Ashgabat, in the UN building, a meeting of the heads of UN agencies in Turkmenistan with journalists and bloggers of the capital took place, the correspondent of Turkmenportal reports.
The meeting was dedicated to the United Nations Day and was held in an informal setting.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko, having congratulated everyone on the significant day, noted that a meeting of this format is being held here for the first time. Its purpose is to emphasize the importance of the UN mission in the country.
Then the heads of missions of UN agencies (UNDP, UNFPA, IOM, UNICEF, UNODC and WHO) gave brief overviews of their activities in Turkmenistan, after which journalists, bloggers and influencers were able to ask any questions they were interested in.
The event became an excellent platform for communication, exchange of opinions and discussion of the role of the media in promoting UN values.
United Nations Day, celebrated on October 24, marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945.
