A large sesame producer in Turkmenistan plans to harvest at least 560 tons

One of the largest producers of sesame in Turkmenistan is Dashoguz velayat. This year it is planned to harvest at least 560 tons of this useful and popular crop.

As “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports, the Kunyaurgench etrap and the S. Turkmenbashy etrap are expected to harvest more than others 140 tons each. Farmers of the Akdepe etrap plan to harvest almost the same amount 135 tons of sesame with an average yield of 10 centners per hectare.

Experts believe that this crop is well adapted to cultivation in local climatic conditions. Important factors for its cultivation are the sunny, warm weather inherent in these places, which the plant requires throughout the growing season. High drought resistance of the crop is also important.

Mass production of sesame in the region is also facilitated by its short growing season.

Sesame seeds are nutritious, have a special aroma, are high in fat and contain microelements beneficial to the body: calcium, iron, phosphorus and others.

Sesame oil is also widely used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes.

Local residents love sesame because it adds a special aroma and taste to pilaf, as well as to the famous local halva, the source notes.
