A fire breaks out in Ashgabat airport (updated)

Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that about 7 a.m. local time on 18 October a fire broke out in Ashgabat airport “Oguzkhan”.

According to one version, the fire broke out in the shop located in the airport building whereas according to another version in the baggage department of the airport.

As of now the fire has been extinguished.

The roads leading to the airport have been cordoned off. A lot of police officers are keeping vigil at the scene. There are neither people nor taxis in the airport and nearby.

The public prosecutor’s office launched the investigation.

“Chronicles of Turkmenistan” will be monitoring the developments.

Update. The fire broke out in the baggage area and was promptly extinguished. By midday the airport was operating in a routine mode.
