A door from the movie "Titanic" went under the hammer for 718 000 USD

Heritage Auctions' auction of Hollywood movie memorabilia has sold the famous door used to escape Kate Winslet's character at the end of Titanic. The lot went for 718 thousand dollars, significantly exceeding the starting price of 40 thousand dollars. This is reported by daily.afisha.ru with reference to The Hollywood Reporter.

This prop, which bears a striking resemblance to a Louis XV-style decorative panel from the Halifax Maritime Museum, was based on one of the most famous wrecks of the Titanic. The door length is 2.44 meters and the width is 1.04 meters.

In addition to the door, the auction included an ax from The Shining, Indiana Jones' whip from the 1984 film, and Kate Winslet's chiffon dress from the finale of Titanic, which went for 125 000 USD. The names of the new owners of these items have not been disclosed.

Other auction items that found buyers included a bowling ball with red roses from Kingpin (350 000 USD) and Tobey Maguire's black suit from Spider-Man 3 (125 000 USD).

It's worth noting that recent experiments have disproved the theory that Jack could have survived at the end of the film. The door does not have enough buoyancy to support two people for a long time.

However, James Cameron does not rule out the possibility of saving Jack if Rose shared her life jacket with him and stayed on the door.
