A devastating disaster hits China

In China, heavy rains triggered large-scale floods and landslides in many regions, which resulted in numerous casualties and significant damage, “MIR 24” reports.

A level four emergency response regime has been introduced in the south of the country. In Sichuan province, the disaster destroyed more than 40 houses and caused severe damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges and power lines. Contact has been lost with more than 30 people.

The central regions of the country were also seriously affected: 19 people died and more than 60 are missing. A span of a highway bridge collapsed in northwest China, claiming the lives of 12 people. The fate of another 30 remains unknown.

The disaster did not spare the animals either: enclosures at the Baoji Zoo were flooded, and evacuating the animals was not yet possible.

Across the country, floods destroyed more than 600 homes. The authorities had to evacuate over 100 thousand people from flooded areas. Rescue operations continue using boats and drones.
