VivoKey and Dangerous Things presented the Apex implantable cryptocurrency wallet. According to Decrypt, this tablet-sized device is capable of carrying out cryptocurrency transactions directly through a chip implanted under the skin, RBC.RU reports.

Both companies have experience in creating implantable devices with NFC and RFID technologies. Apex stores data to access Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Owners can perform transactions using smartphones to read signals from the chip.

Amal Graafstra, the head of both companies, emphasizes the uniqueness of Apex: private keys and signatures for transactions are generated within the chip, and the mobile application serves only as an interface, without storing sensitive information.

Apex is currently compatible with the Satochip wallet, Seedkeeper app and Status IM wallet, supporting various blockchains. The device costs 349 USD.

Apex is a product of the biohacking industry, where enthusiasts experiment with technological modifications to the body. Graafstra sees potential for using Apex not only for cryptocurrency transactions, but also for data access control.
