A conference on international cooperation in the field of nature protection was held in Turkmenistan

In the large conference hall of the Agricultural Complex of Turkmenistan on Monday, a scientific and practical conference “Achievements in the field of environmental protection and international cooperation in this area in the year under the motto “Happy youth with Arkadag Serdar” was held.

The forum was dedicated to the World Environment Day and became an occasion to sum up the work done in Turkmenistan in this area.

As reported in the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper, the forum was held in a hybrid format, it was attended by heads and specialists of environmental structures and industry departments, the scientific community, universities and public associations of the country, as well as the UN Development Program, the UN Environment Program, from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC), German Society for International Cooperation and others.

FAO Sub-Regional Coordinator for Central Asia Viorel Gutu noted that the Organization actively supports Turkmenistan's efforts to achieve its sustainable development goals, from promoting climate-smart farming practices to strengthening food safety systems. Evidence of this is the jointly developed draft program of technical cooperation on land cadastre.

FAO also intends to provide technical assistance to Turkmenistan through the projects “Improvement of the pasture monitoring system using satellite images and geographic information systems” and “Monitoring and assessment of fish stocks”, etc.

During the forum, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan, being one of the leaders of regional climate negotiations, contributed to the work of the V Central Asian Conference on Climate Change, which became a successful platform for the exchange of experience, presentation of new research and progressive approaches.

The work of the conference continued in two thematic sessions, which were held in the Agricultural Complex of the country and the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A.

Niyazov.One of the sessions was devoted to the topic “The main directions of international cooperation in the field of environmental protection”, the other “The importance of education and science in ensuring environmental well-being in Turkmenistan”.
