A British woman wins a lawsuit against her employer for coughing during a pandemic

A former employee of the UK car company Cawdor Cars has won a lawsuit against her employer. The court ordered the company to pay it 26.4 thousand pounds sterling as compensation for the incident that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. Snob.ru reports this with reference to The Guardian.

The plaintiff, who worked for the company from 2017 to 2020, suffered from psoriatic arthritis and an autoimmune disease. Fearing serious consequences if she contracted the coronavirus, she asked her colleagues to maintain social distancing.

However, 62-year-old boss Kevin Davies, the father of famous British rugby player Gareth Davies, responded to her request inadequately. According to the court, he “deliberately and loudly coughed in her direction, saying that she was being ridiculous.” This incident occurred a week before the official announcement of the lockdown in the country.

After this incident, indirect pressure was put on the woman, which led to her dismissal three months later.

The victim commented on the situation: “He knew about my health condition and that due to the medications I was taking, I had no immune defense. Despite this, he intentionally coughed in my face. I was shocked. I’m not a weak person and I’ve been through a lot in my life, but this really hurt me.”
