A conference hall of the Hotel “Yildyz” in Ashgabat hosted a seminar with the participation of representatives of the Inter-Agency Commission on Implementing Turkmenistan’s International Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Obligations.
As was noted, having joined the main international legal instruments of the United Nations, including in the field of human rights, Turkmenistan takes practical steps to implement the provisions contained in these documents.
The seminar participants pointed out the necessity to further strengthen constructive partnership with the international organizations, primarily with the UN and its structural agencies. They also spoke in favor of continuing the practice of holding seminars, meetings and consultations with the participation of foreign experts with regard to the issues of preparing the national reports and reviews, and studying the best practices in protection of human rights.
On November 1-2, the seminar will be continued with the participation of members of a working group at the Inter-Agency Commission on Implementing Turkmenistan’s International Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Obligations.
The forum was preceded by a regular meeting of the above-mentioned Commission earlier held at the Turkmen National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan that was attended by representatives of the Mejlis, several ministries and departments, law enforcement agencies and public organizations.
During a meeting, the reports were heard on the work done by the Commission, and areas of further activities of this board were discussed. In particular, these are the issues related to the practical implementation of the “National Action Plan on Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2016-2020”, as well as the “National Action Plan on Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2015-2020”.
As was emphasized, a comprehensive legal reform is successfully carried out in Turkmenistan, which is aimed at the consecutive improvement of the legislative and legal framework, taking into account all aspects of socio-economic development, present-day realities and fundamental principles of international law.
The meeting participants also pointed out the growing role of Turkmenistan in addressing urgent humanitarian issues. An excellent example of this has been provided by the recent adoption at the 36th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council of the Declaration on Encouraging the Valuable Contribution of the Olympic Teams of Refugees to the Promotion of Peace and Human Rights initiated by Turkmenistan.
Tens of UN member states acted as the co-authors of this document. And that was another illustration of the fact that, following the main principles of positive neutrality, our country implements the active foreign policy, including in the field of human rights for the benefit of all the peoples on the planet.
