Afghanistan’s news outlet Pajhwok reports that about 300 youths who recently joined the ISIS militants, are being trained in the Darzab district of Afghanistan’s Jawzjan province near the border with Turkmenistan.
Baz Mohammad Dawar, acting administrative chief for Darzab said that a large gathering was recently organized in the village of Moghul as part of a recruitment campaign.
According to Mohammad Dawar, ISIS militants preferably select young people under 20 y.o. who are paid 30,000 to 40,000 afghani ($434-$580). After the training they are sent to war fronts against Afghan security forces.
Halima Sadaf, a provincial council member, confirmed the number of teenagers and youth joining ISIS had increased. According to her, a limited number of people currently living in rural areas of the district were urged to accept ISIS demands.
Darzab is located 105 kilometers west of the city of Shiberghan, the capital of Jawzjan province. Most parts of the district are under ISIS control.
