30.09.2020 | Turkmenistan-Afghanistan: documents on development of cooperation are signed

On the instruction of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Turkmen delegation took part in the solemn ceremony of signing a number of significant documents, aimed at promoting the further implementation of joint infrastructure projects between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, in particular, the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, power lines and optical - fiber communication Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP), railways.

President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, government officials, the heads and representatives of the relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, as well as international companies took part in the event.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov underlined the high level of cooperation between the two countries in a wide range of areas.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of signing documents designed to facilitate the practical implementation of joint projects of geopolitical and geo-economic significance for the entire Eurasian continent.

President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani expressed gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the support provided to Afghanistan, commitment to friendship between the two countries and peoples, and also for the development of large-scale energy projects designed to have a constructive impact not only on the comprehensive reconstruction of Afghanistan, but also on regional economic integration.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the “Türkmengaz” State Concern, the companies TAPI Pipeline Limited and Afgan Gaz Enterprise on the establishment and development of a natural gas market in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan; the Memorandum of cooperation in the field of communications and IT between the "Türkmenaragatnaşyk" Agency and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan; the Agreement between the "Türkmentelekom" State Telecommunication Enterprise of the "Türkmenaragatnaşyk" Agency and the "Afghan Wireless" Communication Company on fiber optic cable between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan; the Agreement on the purchase of electricity in Afghanistan under the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan transmission line project.

Thus, the current event vividly proves that President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, implementing the policy of good-neighborliness and positive neutrality, significantly contributes to ensuring global peace, security and sustainable development.

One of the key vectors of this creative strategy is the strengthening of relations of friendship and fruitful cooperation with neighboring states, including the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Representatives of the neighboring state expressed their sincere gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for his enormous contribution and active position in the issues of socio-economic reconstruction and peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, once again emphasizing the importance of large projects initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the fuel and energy sector, in the energy and transport and communication spheres.
