Cooperation in the transport sphere and the implementation of transit potential of the two countries occupy an important place on the agenda of the Turkmen-Iranian talks.Fully satisfying the Sustainable Development Goals, the Turkmen-Iranian cooperation in this sphere is based, first of all, on the national and regional interests.

Among the major international projects is the construction of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transnational railway, laid in the North-South direction. The Turkmen leader underlined that good-neighborliness and enhancement of fraternal relations between our countries resulted in putting this railway into operation.

Having the positive effect on the transport communication throughout the Eurasian space, the railway provides the European countries with the opportunity to exit from the Baltic ports to the commodity and raw markets of the Middle East, as well as to the countries on the coast of the Indian Ocean.

Turkmenistan and Iran take an active part in the negotiation process to determine the legal status of the Caspian Sea.The solid legal framework was established on the initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan and Iran to regulate the activities of the five coastal states on the Caspian coast.

Turkmenistan and Iran have proposed a number of new forms and mechanisms of multilateral cooperation on the wide range of areas. At present, the implementation of an ambitious project on the construction of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port is under completion.

This will allow Turkmenistan to develop the communication at sea with the sea ports of Iran - Enzeli and Neka as well as to increase the volumes of multimodal international cargo transportation through the port of Bandar Abbas in the Persian Gulf.

The favorable geographic location of Turkmenistan and Iran opens up wide opportunities for the implementation of joint projects in this area.It was also emphasized that there were all the possibilities for increasing the flow of vehicles through the Turkmen-Iranian border points.
