Meeting with the delegation of European Union arrived to the capital on working visit led by special representative of European Union for Central Asia Peter Burian was held in the Mejlis.

During the conversation, the guest noted the importance of the election of the Mejlis deputies of the VI Convocation in March of this year, which marked new stage of democratic changes in independent neutral Turkmenistan.

Having highlighted that European Union comprehensively supports constructive initiatives and practical measures of our country in solution of urgent problems of the present the provision of universal peace, stability, ecological safety, Peter Burian expressed the intent of European community to expand and intensify the cooperation with Turkmenistan, which one of the first started the consultations on the adaptation of the Goals of Sustainable development to national conditions.

In this regard, the priorities of the objectives given by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to new deputy corps for legal provision of further social and economic development of the country including in consolidation of civil society, improvement of educational sphere and private sector, establishment of multimodal transport system have been highlighted.

In particular, the importance of opening of new Turkmenbashy International Seaport that makes favourable conditions for entering to Black Sea basin, countries of Europe, Middle East, South Asia and Asian Pacific and would promote the activation of trade and economic partnership, establishment of cultural and humanitarian contacts has been highlighted.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged the vision on the conditions and perspectives of Inter-Parliamentary cooperation, which is an integral part of constructive dialog between Turkmenistan and EU.

Appropriateness of the participation of Turkmen parliamentarians in preparation of new strategy of development of the cooperation of European Union with Central Asian countries for successful realization of joint projects and programs was highlighted.

The actuality of the practice of the Mejlis on creation of Friendship groups with the parliaments of foreign states has also been mentioned. * * * The programme of the working visit of the European Union delegation includes the meetings in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and number of non-governmental organizations of the country.
