14.11.2017 | The President of Turkmenistan receives UNCTAD Secretary General

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Dr Mukhisa Kituyi, the Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), who arrived in Ashgabat for participation in the VII Regional and Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII).Having expressed the gratitude for spared time, the guest conveyed warm greetings of the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres who addressed the wishes of prosperity to Turkmen people.

It was mentioned that the United Nations see neutral Turkmenistan as reliable and responsible partner and highly appreciates active and initiative position of Turkmen side in consolidation of regional and international cooperation and development of the solution of topical present issues.

Welcoming Mukhisa Kituyi, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted that steadily implementing the strategy of positive neutrality, our country invariably stands for broad constructive cooperation for provision of universal peace, security and sustainable development.

Having conveyed return greetings and best wishes the UN Secretary General, the Head of the State stated with delight strategic character of the partnership with the United Nations Organization, which receives new content every year.

Continuing the meeting, Turkmen leader and his guest shared the opinions on the perspectives of cooperation, broad opportunities for which according to the UNCTAD Secretary General are opened owing to large reformation carried out under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan and aimed at diversification of national economy. “We are very interested in further development of our partnership”, - Mukhisa Kituyi said, having highlighted that having rich natural resources, huge deposits of oil and gas, Turkmenistan reached large success in the programmes of industrialization of the country.

In this context, the importance of the Memorandum on Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN Conference of Trade and Development signed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the day before was highlighted.

In particular, the document highlights three priority vectors of bilateral cooperation stimulation of the investments, modernization of custom service, transport and logistics, and support of the joining of Turkmenistan to the World Trade Organization.

Having expressed the gratitude to Head of Turkmen State Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the attention paid to the partnership with UNCTAD, the guest made special mention of the importance of the projects on implementation of modern electronic systems and software to the work of custom service in our country as well as for the development of regional transport infrastructure.

VII Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII) held in Ashgabat was separate subject of interested exchange of the visions.In this regard, it was mentioned that Turkmenistan renders huge assistance to restoration of the economy of neighboring country sending the investments for construction of different facilities.

Large support is provided in education of Afghan youth and training of qualified specialists.At the end of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development expressed the confidence in successful continuation of constructive cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN intended for long-term perspective and aimed at the support of universal prosperity and progress.
