Construction launch ceremony of new energy bridge was held in February 2018 with the participation of the Heads of the State and Governments of Turkmenistan, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Foreign Minister of the Republic of India.
At the same time, the construction of Afghan part of the TAPI pipeline and TAP fibre optic line has been launched.The Agreement on the project of Turkmenistan Afghanistan Pakistan powerline has been signed between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Ashgabat in October.
In particular, the document defines to volume of energy to be supplied to Afghanistan by the power line to Hear and Kandahar (300 Megawatt to each city).The Agreement with the Asian Development Bank related to financing of the construction of high-voltage power lines Ahal Balkan and Balkan Dashoguz signed in 2018 is to support further integration of the country to the world energy system, and to expansion of geography of export routes of Turkmen energy carriers to the world markets.
In this regard, it is worth mentioning that active connection of Turkmenistan to unified Central Asian energy system plays an important role in creation of additional opportunities for significant increment of volumes of Turkmen energy supplies under international project Turkmenistan Uzbekistan Tajikistan Afghanistan Pakistan (TUTAP).
