The United States was the only major economy to rank among the top ten countries with the highest cost of drinking water. For a one and a half liter bottle, Americans have to pay 2,19 USD, which gave the country eighth place in this ranking.

However, even this price is almost three times lower than that of the absolute leader of the list - Monaco, where a similar volume of water costs 5,8 dollars, “RIA Novosti” reports.

The majority of countries in the top ten are from the Caribbean and Africa.Among them are Antigua and Barbuda (2,59 USD per 1,5 liters), Central African Republic (2,49 USD), Barbados (2,48 USD), Bahamas (2,41 USD), Costa Rica (2,35 USD), Grenada (2,26 USD) and Eritrea (2,14 USD).

Iceland closes the top ten with a price of 2,04 USD per 1,5 liters.

The study showed that in 77 countries the cost of one and a half liters of fresh water exceeds one dollar.

Interestingly, North African countries are among the states with the most affordable water: in Egypt, 1,5 liters costs only 18 cents, and in Libya - 24 cents.
