International seminar “Policy of Intellectual Property in Universities and Scientific and Research Institutes” organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the State Intellectual Property Service of the Ministry of Finances and Economy of Turkmenistan started work in Archabyl Hotel.
Representative of the Academy of Sciences, Centres of Technologies, Scientific and Research Chemical Institute, number of high educational institutes of the country as well as international experts - the representatives of the WIPO, Oxford University and profile facilities of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part in the forum.
Representative delegation of the World Intellectual Property Organization, which has more than 50 years of history and deals with making of the main international convention in this field, arrived in Ashgabat on this occasion.
As for today, there are more than 190 countries including Turkmenistan in the WIPO.Activity of the WIPO and latest changes for supporting of innovative development, the role of intellectual property, policy in this field in the universities and scientific and research institutes of Turkmenistan are among the main subjects of the seminar.
Deputy Director of Interim Developing Countries of the World Intellectual Property Organization Giovanni Napolitano noted in his speech that Turkmenistan actively integrates to international policy for development of balance and available international system stimulating creative activity, innovations and making contribution to economic progress for the interest of the society.
Formation of diversified economy of the country is the most important factors in development of innovations, therefore, in intellectual property, the guest noted.Current meeting has to be another step in the formation and efficient management of intellectual property rights not only in universities and scientific and research centres of the country but also on national level.
Presentation of the WIPO activity in last years, the role of intellectual property in innovative activity as well as policy in intellectual property sphere in universities and scientific and research centres of Turkmenistan were held under the seminar.
In addition, round table’ discussions on the methods of development of this policy and issues of intellectual property protection in the region were organized during the forum.During interested exchange of the opinions, the participants noted high potential of regional partnership and gave positive assessment of the expansion of cooperation in the context of National programme of social development in 2011 2030.
Consultations with representatives of universities and scientific and research institutes of the country, who will share the practice of using international standards in the sphere of policy of intellectual property, will be held on the second day of the seminar.
International seminar “Policy of Intellectual Property in Universities and Scientific and Research Institutes” will complete its work on the next day.Under cultural programme, the delegation of the World Intellectual Property Organization and other foreign guests will visit the International Equestrian Complex and see national traditions of horse-breeding and fancy riding.
