The videoconference meeing with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism Mr. Vladimir Voronkov took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Underlining the constructive nature of long-term cooperation, the parties paid special attention to regional and international security, including strengthening interaction within the framework of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

The parties emphasized the importance of cooperation, using potential of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the Ashgabat Declaration of 2011 and the Joint Action Plan to Counter Terrorism in Central Asia, which laid the foundation for adapting the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy to the specific region.

In this regard, the importance of strengthening cooperation between the countries of Central Asia was emphasized. Particular emphasis was placed on the application of the principles of preventive diplomacy, including the development of the UN General Assembly draft resolution "The Role of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia", initiated by the Turkmen side.

The effectiveness of the policy of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan pursued under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in particular, the principles of neutralism in conflict prevention, was underlined.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of this status, our country initiated the development of the UN General Assembly draft Resolution "The role and significance of the policy of neutrality in maintaining and strengthening international peace, security and sustainable development."

Emphasizing the importance of the geostrategic position of Turkmenistan, the parties considered the possibilities of widening long-term cooperation.

The issues of information security and the youth component of cooperation were also discussed. The parties focused on the adoption of universal legal instruments to ensure security in the information space under the auspices of the UN.

During the online meeting, Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the culture of peace and trust in international relations. In this regard, particular attention was paid to the initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the events scheduled for 2021, which is declared as the International Year of Peace and Trust in accordance with the UN Resolution.
