When considering the issues of cooperation in the transport and logistics sphere, Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to the active participation of the United Nations in this work.Putting forward the initiative to establish a global dialogue on the transport issues, speaking during the International Forum “The Great Silk Road towards new heights of development”, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that we proceeded from the fact that today it was directly linked to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Turkmen leader noted that today, the alpha and omega of the international activities of our country in the transport segment was to create a modern transport architecture oriented to solving the key tasks of the Community of Nations in the 21st century, to serve the millions of people around the world, to preserve and increase the planetary resources.
In recent years, Turkmenistan has put forward a number of important initiatives that were widely supported by the world community. That is vividly proved by the unanimous adoption of the Turkmen draft resolutions of the UN General Assembly on cooperation in the field of sustainable transport, co-sponsored by the dozens of countries.
In the development of the international transport infrastructure, Turkmenistan always emphasizes the need for closer cooperation and partnership with the specialized structures of the United Nations, primarily the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
In this context, based on the experience of the International Road Transport Union, Turkmenistan proposes the UNECE and ESCAP to discuss the possibility of creating the Modal Highway for Central Asia with the access to Turkey.
The President of Turkmenistan noted that the initiative of the International Road Transport Union on the Modal Highway fully satisfied our vision of the prospects for the development of transport routes in this direction.
According to the Turkmen leader, we fully support it and are ready to play the most active role and provide the most effective support for the implementation of this project together with all UN member states, members of the ECE and ESCAP.
