Ashgabat hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Stable cooperation in energy sector - the most important condition for global development”, organized by the “Türkmengaz” and “Türkmennebit” State Concerns on the instruction of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The forum, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, brought together over 220 delegates from 32 countries, the heads and leading specialists of 80 oil and gas companies, representatives of relevant ministries and departments, authoritative international organizations and financial institutions, as well as diplomats, scientists and journalists.
120 foreign delegates participated in the conference in the online format.
A wide range of issues on cooperation in the energy sector were discussed during the forum. Particular attention was paid to the energy diplomacy of Turkmenistan based on the principles of positive neutrality.
Secretary General of the International Gas Union Luis Bertran Rafecas took part in the Ashgabat forum and spoke about Natural Gas in the Energy World after COVID-19.
Most experts believe that natural gas will significantly contribute to the economic recovery after the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Executive Director of the Global Gas Center, Valerie Ducros presented the report on the action to combat climate change and its impacts - “Natural Gas - a Key Element in the Transition to Sustainable Energy”.
Speaking during the meeting, Secretary General of the Energy Charter Urban Rusnák, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat Natalia Drozd, and other forum participants underlined that strengthening the positions of the global economy directly depended on the sustainability of the world energy.
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the European Union in Turkmenistan, Diego Ruiz Alonso, General Manager of CNPC International Ltd.Turkmenistan branch, Li Shuliang, Special representative of the United Nations regional center for preventive diplomacy for Сentral Аsia Natalia Gherman among others presented their reports during the session "Energy Diplomacy of Turkmenistan: Transnational Pipelines - Key Elements of Sustainable Development and Energy Security".
Senior Visiting Research Fellow of Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Julian Bowden summed up the results of the first session. The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies is a world leading independent energy research institute specialising in advanced research into the economics and politics of international energy across oil, gas and electricity markets.
The second, final session of the conference was devoted to the role of financial institutions as a driving force for development and stability.CEO, TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, Muhammetmyrat Amanov, Acting Governor of Afghanistan Bank, Senior Economic Adviser to the President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Ajmal Ahmady, as well as the representatives of the Asian Development Bank and Credit Suisse Bank presented their reports during the final session.
Within the framework of the forum, online meetings were held between the heads of structural divisions of the national fuel and energy complex and their potential partners, during which strategic directions of cooperation in the oil and gas industry were discussed.
